Our Role as Stewards of the Earth
This month’s Girls Youth Programme explores a vital and deeply relevant topic — The Environment and The Muslimah.
In a world facing growing environmental challenges, Islam teaches us that caring for the planet is not optional, but a core part of our faith and identity as Muslims.
Join us for an engaging session led by Ustadha Zulekha, where we’ll explore how the Qur’an and the Sunnah call us to protect, appreciate, and preserve the natural world around us. Through both spiritual reflection and practical discussion, we’ll uncover how Muslim women can embody environmental responsibility in their daily lives.
Qur’anic Foundations for Environmental Care
The Qur’an teaches us that we are khalifah (stewards) on this earth:
“It is He who has made you successors on the earth…” (Surah Al-An’am, 6:165)
Allah also warns against destruction:
“And do not cause corruption upon the earth after it has been set in order.” (Surah Al-A’raf, 7:56)
Our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ lived a life deeply rooted in appreciation for nature — conserving water, caring for animals, planting trees, and teaching that kindness to all creation is a form of worship. He ﷺ said:
“If a Muslim plants a tree or sows seeds, and then a bird, a person or an animal eats from it, it is regarded as a charity.” (Bukhari)
These teachings show us that environmental care is not a trend — it is an act of faith.
Activity: Design Your Own Reusable Bag
Participants will take part in a creative and meaningful activity where they will design their own reusable tote bag to take home. This hands-on session encourages sustainable living, mindful consumption, and personal responsibility rooted in Islamic values.
